ACT YOUR AGE

BY CARL PALMER

Watching South Park too loud,
writing on a notepad, bare feet
propped on the coffee table, he’s
munching popcorn and drinking
chocolate milk from the carton as
his youngest grand girl grouses,

He stays up late as he wants, eats
whenever and whatever, never has
to get up early for school or work
and nobody tells him what to do.
I can’t wait until I become an adult
so I can be a kid just like my Papa.

He was a poet; and they are never exactly grown-up.
